One fine day we decided to go to a junk yard and pick up some odds-n-ends and build a fire pit. We found what looks to be clothes racks. The good thing was the base was made of stainless steel. The rest was coated to prevent rust.
This worked well for us. So we bought the pieces and put together a fire pit, which we used that night.
“Winter is coming…”
- At the junk yard. We found some bits and pieces which could work for us
- Brought the junk home
- Pulling it apart
- Chopping
- Grinding
- Making fireworks
- You wanna mess with me???
- Legs are almost done
- Welding on the floor
- Measuring things up. For science!
- Guide for the bottom tile. It has a bolt in it used to hold the tile in place
- Retro fitting the guides using a piece of off-cut wood
- Measuring the tile for cutting. Tile is used for catching whatever falls out of the pit and prevent it from burning the ground
- Cutting this tile was very, very messy!
- Locating guide pins were made so the top of the pit sits on the legs without moving about, but still allow me to separate the two pieces
- Completed!
- First use. The stainless steel was too thin and the top section warped. To resolve this issue, the locating pins all got a tack weld to hold the steel in place. No more warping! But not quite as portable as before.
