My existing Kenwood deck is no longer working. This is the second Kenwood deck i’ve installed that has failed in 2 years. Each time it fails not long after the warranty period ends! So no more Kenwood for me. This time im installing a Clarion deck.
The great thing about this deck is that it can play music over Bluetooth, so no more cables. Indeed the deck face is minimalist and simple. Its easy to use and has a nice and large screen.
- Soldering wires
- Hole left from removing the old facia
- The old facia was cracked and broken
- New facia plus cover to prevent splash damage
- The old deck. This is the second Kenwood I have lost. I wont be buying Kenwood again.
- Testing the Clarion before connecting up. All works fine!
- Unboxing
- Playing some Michael Jackson over Bluetooth. Works nicely
- Cover in place
- Without cover
- I couldnt attach the new facia directly as the hole was too large. So I cut up a piece of aluminium checkerplating for mounting
- Cutting up the checkerplating
- I hadnt bought my cutting tool for the aluminium and its very hard to cut it with a normal cutting/grinding disc as aluminium doesnt cut wel that way… very annoying to cut but it was done in the end!
- Tried retro-fitting the new deck with the old facia, but it looked so ugly
- New brackets made for holding the deck in place. The boat knocks about a lot so this is very much needed
- New bracket in place
- Deck in place without facia. Very ugly!

If I ever get a boat, I would like to install a Clarion deck just for the simple fact that I wouldn’t need cables. That would save a lot of work. Playing the radio on Bluetooth sounds like another good reason to install this.

Thanks! It surely was more convenient than having cables!
