The existing balustrade had rusted away at 2 of the posts from water pooling over the years. In these pictures you can see after welding a reinforcing place on the bottom of the balustrade and after painting it black.
But it still felt flimsy. So this time, I decided to weld an angled rod and bolt it to the slab. It began to get dark so I don’t have pictures of the other posts, but all posts were done and it looks great.
- Preparing the brackets that will be dynabolted to the slab
- This is what the balustrade looks like before
- Retro fitting the rod. Held in place by vice grips
- Measuring out and drilling the holes in the slab. This is hard work as there is reinforcing in the slab which I needed to drill through. After a few more holes the drill bit keeled over. I went through 3 drill bits all up for this project
- The rod in place and bolted in
- Ready for welding
- Ready for welding
- First two are done
