DIY Garage Door Notification Light

Watch my son build a garage door notification light using Arduino. A fun beginner electronics project with full wiring diagram and code walkthrough.

My son built this project. Full details are on Youtube.

In this video, I walk you through a fun and simple electronics project: building a garage door status indicator using a reed switch, relay, and LED. If you’ve ever wondered how to know when your garage door is open or closed when you’re inside the house, this project is for you. We start by designing the circuit, simulating it in TinkerCAD, and then building it on a breadboard. After soldering the final design onto a PCB and creating a custom 3D-printed enclosure, we install it in the garage and test it out. What You’ll Learn:

  • How to design and simulate an electronic circuit in TinkerCAD
  • The basics of using a reed switch and relay to control an LED
  • Breadboarding, soldering, and creating a simple PCB
  • Building a custom 3D-printed case for your circuit
  • Tips for installing and powering your electronics safely
